API Testing
Guides for authoring, running and analysing tests across web automation, API and performance — plus setup, collaboration and release notes.
Author Testcase
Author Testcase is where you define API test logic after a testcase exists. Build ordered request steps in the editor using manual authoring or by importing a Postman collection — then add assertions, extraction rules, save, and run the testcase.
Authoring modes
What you author
- Step — a logical API phase (for example, Login, Create Order); each step is one HTTP request or a step group reference.
- Request — method, URL, auth, headers, params, and body for each call.
- Assertions — validate response code, response headers, or response body using rules (field, assert type, and pattern).
- Extraction rules — capture values from responses for use in later steps.
- Reuse Step Groups where applicable.
Authoring modes
Manual authoring
Create and maintain API testcase logic in the editor step by step. Best for precise control over each request, custom assertions, extraction rules, and maintaining existing tests.
Import from Postman
Import a Postman collection (v2.1 JSON) to generate API steps from existing requests. Best for migrating collections quickly; refine assertions and extractions afterward in the editor.
When to use which
- Manual — new endpoints, complex assertions, extraction chains, or refactoring imported steps.
- Import Postman — existing Postman collections, bulk request setup, or fast migration of API suites.
- Hybrid — import first, then edit manually to add assertions, extractions, and Step Groups.
Expected outcome
You know how Author Testcase fits after Create Testcase, which mode to use, and where to go for detailed Manual or Import Postman collection steps.
